Dear Stephen,

Thank you for your prompt, kind, and thoughtful reply to my letter announcing the discovery and restoration of “‘Let the word go forth’: 6 excerpts from the inaugural address of John F. Kennedy” by Norman A Gifford. This music deeply touched those of us who performed it in the 1960s as well as those who heard it at our Memorial Day celebrations. In fact, I have had choir members, now in their late 50s and early 60s, tell me that hearing president Kennedy's challenge put to music motivated them to join the peace corp upon graduation from college. My choirmates, Mr. Keith Sturdevant, director and the Gifford family are all elated that after 44 years, Mr. Gifford's composition has found a home and will finally be in a place where it will, I am sure, be appreciated.

Furthermore, I also greatly appreciate your advice as to how to reach Caroline Kennedy. Perhaps it is just a dream, but I would love to have her, the Kennedy Library and Foundation Staff, and perhaps the nation hear President Kennedy's magical words set to music.

I will put two envelopes in the mail today, one addressed to you and another addressed to Caroline in care of the Library. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Clifford Larkins, Ph.D.
